PUBLIC RELATIONS PR SUPERVISOR

Summary:  We are looking for a public relations supervisor with 5 to 10 years of experience in an agency setting with an emphasis on media relations, project management and storytelling. And bonus points if you’ve spent time working on outdoor enthusiast/lifestyle brands. We are located outside the hustle and bustle of Milwaukee in Delafield, WI, also known as Lake Country. Our flexible environment blends a mix of working from home with time in the office, and we employ a stellar team of PR rock stars across the country. We are looking for someone who can help us generate earned media coverage and chatter among traditional media, influencers and social channels to help drive business outcomes for our clients.

A PR Supervisor at Gunpowder is heavily involved and leads both day-to-day agency efforts and client teams on various accounts and projects. He/she collaborates with the team to develop strategies and objectives for individual projects, leads the execution of all projects and is responsible for ensuring that agency output adheres to client objectives, meets client deadlines and achieves agency quality standards while maintaining a high level of trust with important agency partners and influencers on behalf of the agency and our clients.

 

Detailed Job Description:

  • Collaborate: Work closely with agency team to develop, plan, and manage the client’s needs across a variety of projects and initiatives. Work with various functional teams to estimate and deliver work efforts; liaises with cross-functional teams throughout engagements.
  • Lead: Provide leadership, timely feedback and approvals on client work, production and event timelines/run of shows and media lists developed by support staff. Ensure a high level of client understanding and approvals prior to work commencing.
  • Manage: Manage quality of work and client relationships through superior communication skills, excellent work ethic and ability to mentor junior staff – coaching and inspiring them to do great work. Ensuring team is focused on the right tasks that lead to successful outcomes for our clients. Ensure client meetings are productive and running efficiently, ensuring follow-up and meeting documentation is completed accurately and on time by support team.
  • Execute: Manage PR support staff on media outreach while also conducting some media relations and strategic PR tactics to help to drive earned coverage for the client. Lead event management, planning and execution with PR managers/coordinators, under the direction of the client services director, while helping to steer the direction of creative content with the account service team. 
  • Budgeting: Lead the management of overall client budget for all retainers and project executions. Continual tracking for internal team members to ensure projects and retainers are tracking appropriately. Financial stewardship for the agency with profitability in mind.
  • Review: Ensure all agency work is accurate and has a strong strategic foundation before going to the client our to media and partners.
  • Business Development: Constantly mine new ways to sell the agency to potential clients and being a steward of the agency at all industry events/tradeshows. Assist/lead new business development support through RFP responses, pitch concepting and execution and onboarding of new clients.
  • Support: Collaborate and support directors and president on client projects and new business efforts.

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • Solid interpersonal relationship skills and ability to grow client/agency relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities, including client-facing presentation skills
  • Ability to author and deliver critical written strategic, creative and persuasive documents (i.e. briefs, press releases, media pitches, etc.)
  • Genuinely cares about the success of the junior support team and provides opportunities for growth within the agency
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to junior level team members for best outcomes for clients
  • Ability to solve unforeseen problems quickly and can think on his/her feet to make a decision
  • Brings an informed point of view to internal and external meetings
  • Demonstrates an ever-increasing understanding of the clients’ business, industry, products, marketing objectives and priorities
  • Excels in a fast-paced agency environment
  • Embraces accountability and ensures projects are taken from start to finish
  • Is organized and effectively manages his/her time
  • Pays attention to the details (big or small)

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree or higher in marketing, advertising, public relations, business administration or a related field, and at least 5 to 10 years of experience.
