Job Description & Requirements
The Shipping Lead works in a one-person Shipping department and is able to think and operate independently. There are no supervisory responsibilities as part of this role. Picks customer’s orders and prepares all products for shipping. Counts and compares quantity and identification numbers of units against order. Prepares identifying information and shipping instructions on boxes. Moves boxes using hand truck, forklift or other similar equipment. Prepares shipments of products to outside vendors. Receives, unpacks, and examines incoming goods and verifies completeness of shipments against packing lists, invoices, and other
Responsibilities:
• Ability to independently prioritize and organize schedule to meet daily, weekly and monthly goals.
• Ability to set longer term goals with the understanding that timing and frequency of orders may impact short term schedule with last minute changes and adjustments.
• This role is approximately 60% outgoing, 10% incoming and 30% picking orders.
• Picks items for shipment from inventory.
• Strong emphasis on quality required with final QC of products before preparing for shipments.
• Focus on accuracy of picked orders, shipment quality and error free work.
• Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
• Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
• Inserts items into containers.
• Determines method of shipment based on customer’s/vendor’s guidelines.
• Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
• Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons.
• Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
• Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with manager to rectify damages and shortages.
• Routes items to departments.
• Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
• Operates forklift or hand truck to move shipments.
• Safety minded individual focused on safety of self and others.
Qualifications:
• 3-5 years experience with picking and shipping.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic computer knowledge required, including ability to navigate internal and external internet resources. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Working knowledge of various shipping software tools including UPS, FedEx and DHL.
• Prior experience with waybills, bills of lading (BOL) and shipper’s letters of instruction (SLI).
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
• Forklift experience desired.
Work Environment:
• Regularly required to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly required to stand for long periods of time (fatigue mats provided)
• Dexterity to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
• Specific vision requirements are good general vision, ability to distinguish between colors, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
