Our staff members are passionate about the activities we represent in our store and their knowledge and expertise help us deliver an unsurpassed customer experience. Within the store, Neptune Mountaineering has a full-service shop offering ski tuning, binding mounting, repairs and rentals and we currently have an excellent opportunity available for a Shop Supervisor.

The Shop Supervisor is in charge of all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the shop, ensuring that quality and safety standards are met while meeting or exceeding the sales and service goals. This is a hands-on role that not only trains and oversees the shop techs but also themselves handles service tickets in order to meet the turnaround targets. The person in this role possesses sound leadership and communication skills suited to the outdoor retail environment, helping Neptune to be not only a great place to shop, but also a great place to work. This role supports store management as well as the sales floor associates and may at times act as the manager-on-duty for the entire store. Lastly, as this role is critical to shaping the customer experience at Neptune, the ideal candidate has outstanding customer service and sales skills with a deep knowledge of the products and services we offer.

Shop Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving the overall success of the shop and meeting performance expectations, for both the shop services and for rentals.
  • Manage shop staff throughout the shift, ensuring that customers’ needs are met, work output is on track and that meals and breaks are taken appropriately.
  • Coordinate the hiring, training, coaching, and development of shop techs.
  • Engages in positive interactions with all levels and types of customers both in person or over the phone; provides accurate and appropriate information, tailoring the approach to find the right product or services for each customer.
  • Ensures that the shop is clean, the shop equipment operating properly, and that the necessary supplies are on hand.
  • Assures we are compliant with all applicable ASTM and OSHA standards or requirements.
  • Acquire appropriate binding certifications and relevant product or technical knowledge for the shop staff.
  • Works periods at the shop counter to complete sales transactions, shop tickets, rental contracts, or to answer customer questions regarding shop work or rentals.
  • Ensures rental equipment is properly maintained including cleanliness, functionality, identification, and that physical inventory is documented and accounted for.
  • Researches and resolves issues with shop tickets or rental contracts when necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with the staff about goals and targets for the shop or other general information that supports the overall company objectives.
  • Identify areas of opportunity or inefficiencies in the shop and provide suggestions to improve performance and/or the customer experience.
  • Participate in managers’ meetings as appropriate. • Work with store manager on seasonal transition plan for the shop.
  • When required, perform and/or delegate store opening and closing procedures.
  • Supports store operations with any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Previous professional ski shop/rental technician experience in a lead role.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Cross Country/Backcountry/Alpine Touring/Telemark/Alpine/Snow Safety.
  • Should possess in-depth knowledge of snow sports equipment, with a specific focus on the gear used for human powered travel.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to perform precision-demanding technical work in an environment that, at times, has distractions or interruptions.
  • Brings a positive, customer-centric attitude to work every hour, every day.
  • Motivated to understand our customer’s needs and find the right solutions for their adventure, but also can mentor and coach others in how to do this.
  • Ability to take initiative and to also take direction from management with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Has demonstrated leadership qualities and proven communication skills – verbal, written and electronic.
  • Basic level of proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Must be consistently reliable and punctual.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Should be personally active in at least one of the outdoor activities represented at Neptune and passionate about the gear needed for those activities; Enjoys learning about gear and the latest technologies.
